Is The Dominican Republic A Third World Country?

Recently I was watching one of Norberis R's videos and she mentioned that in her opinion that the Dominican Republic is not a third world country.

I find her opinion to be interesting because in my comments sections people have written to me that I shouldn't compare the US and the Dominican Republic, because the DR is in fact a third world country.

So I have been thinking is the Dominican Republic a third world country or isn't it?

After doing some research I found some interesting information as it relates to the origins of the term third world country, the more popular term used today and an actual list of countries from the U.N. that could actually be considered "third world".

Third World Origins

So first off, the term third world never was related to a country's economic status, originally. It comes from the 1950's during a time where "first world" countries meant that you were aligned with the United States or Western countries.

The "second world" meant that you were aligned with communist Russia.

And finally the "third world" referred to countries that did not align with either communist Russia or the U.S and Western countries.

So clearly, the term "Third World" is very outdated because it doesn't make any sense for how life is now and people who use this term are in fact using it out of context of the original meaning.

Developing Nations

Today it is more common for politically correct people to use the term developing nations for countries that are newly industrialized such as China, Brazil and India.

However this term looses its significance because countries such as Somalia and Syria also fit under the umbrella of developing nations. But these countries are not developing at all, but rather struggling significantly.

What Term Should We Use?

Currently there is a list called " The United Nation's List of Least Developed Nations". If you look closely at this list there is a country on the Hispaniola island on the list, but it is not the Dominican Republic.

Haiti and other similar countries facing serious issues can be considered a "Least Developed Nation".

So in my opinion to call Dominican Republic a third world country is extremely inaccurate because that term just doesn't make sense today.

Personally I feel like calling the Dominican Republic a developing country is the best fit, even though what a developing nation can look like has a wide range, but the Dominican Republic is definitely not a least developed nation by any standard.

Life In Sosua: Am I The Black Cuba Dave?

Recently I saw some people comment warning me that I should not become the next Cuba Dave. To be honest I had never heard of Cuba Dave before. But after doing some research I discovered he is a pretty legendary guy.

For those that don't know  Cuba Dave reached a level of popularity because he created content dedicated on the topic of prostitution in Costa Rica.

Even though prostitution is legal in Costa Rica,  they created a law basically saying that the promotion of Costa Rica as a sex tourist location is illegal in 2012.

Cuba Dave became the first person in Costa Rica to be put in prison under that law. I believe he was in prison for 15 months in Costa Rica.

Really I find Cuba Dave's story to be very interesting, however, I am not trying to follow the footsteps of Cuba Dave.

If you look throughout my channel you will find videos on food, education, business, culture and much more.

Obviously I do have content related to dating and women. Right now I am in Sosua, so at times I do discuss topics related to pay for play activities because that is just part of life here in Sosua.

But that is not my focus. Really I don't want my channel to have one specific focus. I try to be very holistic in my approach and just make videos on topics that I find visually interesting and that I think people can gain some knowledge from as it relates to travel.

If people want to compare me to something hopefully soon people will see that my aspirations are more aligned with No Jumper than Cuba Dave.

Why I Stopped Walking With My Camera Out In Sosua, Dominican Republic

As a videographer it is very important to always have a good camera available. You never know when you might see something interesting or beautiful right before you.

Usually I walk around with my camera attached to the strap of my backpack. This way I can easily turn it on and not need to hold it with my hands if I want to film.

Throughout my time here in the Dominican Republic I haven't had any real issues with my camera being out. However, here in Sosua multiple random women have tried to deter me from walking around with my camera as I usually do.

When I first started to roam the Sosua streets I found it odd that women would actively try to discourage. me  from wearing my camera. In other cities like Santo Domingo, Las Terrenas and even in Santiago I never had any of these issues.

On top of that, there are so many walking videos of Sosua on Youtube and other social media platforms I thought that that was pretty common place.

However after talking with some women I have gotten to know during my time here in Sosua, I realize that a lot of the girls you see here in Sosua are not from Sosua.

Typically women will come down to Sosua, try to make some quick money, and then go back to their communities with that good single mom image intact or something close to that.

So, now I don't walk around with my camera because I try to be respectful of the plight that a lot of these women are in and also because when I am not wearing my camera it is much easier to talk with the ladies and get more information about life in Sosua.

Life In Sosua: Photoshoot/Videoshoot with Katy

I had a great photoshoot/videoshoot with Katy the other day. Out of all of the girls I have worked with so far I think she has been my favorite. She's absolutely stunning, but also has a calm demeanor that is easy to work with.

We did the shoot at Playa Chiquita. This beach is quickly becoming my favorite here in the Sosua area. Usually there aren't that many people because it's small and it just feels like a real sliver of paradise. I would definitely recommend this spot if you are coming down to visit Sosua.

Overall I was very happy with the shoot. It was funny after doing the yoga exercises Katy told me she really liked them because of the exercise and also deep breathing is good for clearing the mind. Hopefully the video will encourage more guys to try yoga.

Life In The Dominican Republic: Perla De Sosua

If you enjoy Bailees restaurant or want fast access to a bank then Perla De Sosua is a great spot, because it's only 2 minutes away from both. Also it sits in between Playa Sosua and Playa Alicia, so it's easy to get to either one.

My favorite part of the place is the balcony and the bedroom. The balcony is huge and the bed is definitely party size.

Some parts I thought that could be improved on in the room I was in was the shower water because it was lukewarm and also the microwave they had in the room wasn't functioning.

Overall I would stay at Perla de Sosua for a short time or even extended time.

The Forgotten Details: Racial Profiling in Sosua, Dominican Republic 2022 ??

The Outfit

After rewatching my latest video, I realize that there is a big part that I left out which is related to what my friend was wearing. If Esthefany, my friend, was wearing a tight dress or leggings and showing a lot of cleavage and what not then I could understand why homie would confront us.

But in reality she wasn't. She was wearing a very modest and loose long pants romper. I wish I had taken a picture of her outfit.

But the question of maybe he thought she was a trabajadora because of her outfit to me is simply out of the question.

Black On Black Profiling

Also another part of the story that people might want to know is the race of the man confronting us. Actually, the guy was darker than both Esthefany and I put together.

I was trying to look up the proper term for a situation where a black person profiles another black person. I don't know if that can be considered profiling or not.

But whether it be profiling, colorism or anything  in between it still left a very weird feeling in my spirit.

How I Feel About It

In the moment and a little bit afterwards I was definitely frustrated, because I really do believe if Esthefany had been white or white passing then he probably wouldn't have said anything.

However, now I understand the situation where I am staying and will just try to communicate better to everyone involved when I am having a guest over.

Because if homie had a problem with Esthefany, then his head is really going to be spinning when I have Stefany as a guest.
